5. Hôtel de Ville Christmas Market

Why go: Traditionally, one of the most spectacular aspects of this market is the magical light show featuring cascades of golden “snowflakes” drifting down from the building’s peaks against a brilliant blue backdrop. Families enjoy free seasonal activities, including a brightly-lit traditional carousel. Around a dozen chalets offer gifts crafted by French artisans alongside festive foods like crepes with Nutella, raclette, onion soup, and steaming vats of vin chaud (hot mulled wine).

Good to know: Santa Claus will be on site from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, as well as daily during the school holidays up until December 24.
