At the Convergence of Art and Sport

This unique exhibition brings together more than a hundred emblematic works from prestigious collections around the world, ranging from the Musée d'Orsay to the National Gallery of Art in Washington. From Impressionism to Cubism, it offers a visual journey through the history of sport, from its birth to its rise at the turn of the 20th century.

At a time when sport was being democratised and transformed into a mass spectacle, the artists of the day seized the opportunity to explore this new subject, reflecting the social and cultural changes of their time. From Monet to Rodin, via Degas and Caillebotte, each artist contributed his or her own personal vision of the sporting world, exploring the ethical and aesthetic issues associated with this theme.

The exhibition highlights the diversity of sporting practices, from elite sports such as horse riding and sailing, to more archaic activities such as wrestling and boxing. At the heart of this dialogue between art and sport, visitors will be able to discover masterpieces by Bellows, Lhote, Delaunay, Metzinger and Gromaire, offering a rich and nuanced perspective on this fascinating period in cultural history.
